Expedition News

This is a summary of the dispatches sent by the expedition leader Arnold Costner to the Summit Climb website, covering Friday 14 and Saturday 15 October.

After arriving in Lukla on Friday, the expedition group started off with a couple of hours’ trek to their first camping place below Chutanga at around 3200 meters. They did this instead of staying at Lukla to make the altitude jump over the Zetra La pass easier. On Saturday, the trek continued to Charkateng only a few hours’ walk away. Charkateng is located at 4000 meters just before the Zetra La pass, which the group has apparently crossed on Sunday judging from the OK message Mikko sent with his Sport Messenger.

The first two days have been easy to save energy for later. All members are fine and eager to get to higher elevation.
