The 2015 climbing season has ended and the next season has already started, though the short ice climbing season seems to be being almost ended at least here in Southern Finland.
Last year I did not get to climb as often I might have wanted, but still manged to get at least 61 climbing sessions done – not perhaps that much, but quite a bit of them were done outside, which is not that granted these days. I said at least as I’m sure couple of times must have slipped off from Heiaheia. And my summer alpine trip is completely absent from there. Also I don’t if you count fingerboard training as climbing 🙂
To open up those times I went “climbing” 36 times, bouldering 23 times and ice climbing 2 times. From my 27Crags I saw that out of 36 “climbing” times I was climbing outside around twelve times – including two aid climbing sessions plus couple of artificial drytooling sessions, which are not technically outside climbing, but not really indoors too. Of those bouldering sessions about half was done outside, which is a bit surprising even for me.

I went occasionally bouldering with my boy on my parenting days. You turn your back for just a second and find this.

One of the rare indoor bouldering pics of me. Went bouldering with my long time friend who visited us.
This year has already started with couple of indoor climbs, some ice climbs and even one aid climbing session. Hopefully the coming year will bring even more chances for climbing. At least I would like to visit both Kustavi and Olhava – both of which I managed to skip last year. And perhaps some climbing abroad too.

One the seasons visits to Meilahti to try out the long traverse Via Dolorosa (6c). Still too hard for me to do even in parts. This in May.

In Nalkkila slab I have made some of my best ascents. Much due to the fact that the slab climbing really suites me. This time in early June.

Some of my old gear from the early 90’s. My regular climbing shoes pretty much failed this year and I needed to buy new ones. I opted for the similar purple La Sportiva Mythos I had 20 years ago.

I Finnish woods you might ran into this kind of beer drinking, hunchbacked bouldering dwarfs. Beware.

One of the seasons trips to Jaanankallio. They have developed a new sector there with almost all routes are in the range I can do. Just some of the harder ones still needs to be done. This was in September.

I bought finally some aid climbing gear like ladders and some small cams. I went few times to try out the thing and liked it.

I also participated a climbing competition for the first ever time. Naturally the competition was not normal sports climbing or bouldering, but Hakkuhuukkailu which is a Finnish word for indoor drytooling. Didn’t succeed that great, but weren’t the last either.

My boy has wanted to go also for some “hakkuhuukkailu” and now he got the chance. In few years, I have no competition against him I’m sure.
